Description of the "Take-suzume no Kabuto" (Bamboo and Sparrow Helmet)

The "Take-suzume no Kabuto" refers to the helmet of the national treasure, "Hi-ito Odoshi O-yoroi (with Bamboo, Tiger, and Sparrow Metalwork)", which is dedicated to Kasuga-taisha Shrine in Nara Prefecture.

This armor is thought to have been created during the Muromachi period and gets its name from the magnificent openwork metal fittings of bamboo and sparrows adorning its entire body.

Exquisite Decorations

Bamboo and Sparrow Metalwork: The helmet's fuki-kaeshi (side shields) and kuwagata-dai (antler-like crest stand) feature delicate openwork fittings of bamboo and sparrows.

Bamboo and Tiger Metalwork: The large o-sode (shoulder guards) on both sides are decorated with prominent metal fittings of bamboo and tigers.

Features

Scarlet Lacing (Hi-ito Odoshi): The armor is laced with threads dyed in a vibrant scarlet color, creating a beautiful contrast.

National Treasure: Housed at Kasuga-taisha Shrine, this piece is considered one of Japan's finest due to its lavish decoration and intricate craftsmanship, sometimes hailed as "the most magnificent armor in Japan."

For Dedication: It is believed that this armor was created not for practical use, but specifically for dedication to the shrine.

「竹雀之兜」（たけすずめのかぶと）は、奈良県の春日大社に奉納されている国宝「緋糸威大鎧（竹虎雀金物付）」の兜のことです。

この甲冑は、全身に竹と雀の豪華な透かし金具が施されていることからこの名で呼ばれ、室町時代に制作されたと推測されています。

【豪華な装飾】

兜の吹き返しや鍬形台には竹に雀の透かし金具が、左右の大袖には竹に虎の大きな金物が配されています。

【赤糸威】

緋色に染めた糸で威（おど）し上げられており、美しいコントラストをなしています。

【国宝】

春日大社が所蔵しており、豪華絢爛な装飾と精緻な技術から「日本一豪華絢爛な甲冑」と称されることもある、日本屈指の名品です。
